Nurseries will alway be some of my favorite design projects. I think I could design a hundred of them and keep finding new ways to make a simple room special. One of my favorite parts about design is problem solving–finding ways to make a space work more efficiently for a client and their family. Two […]
Last year at this time, I was navigating my first Christmas as a mom, figuring out what working and coming back from maternity leave looked like, and just generally taking care of an 8 month old. I took nearly zero photos of our Christmas decor. While this is completely fine, I missed it, so this […]
I may have to turn in my millenial woman card for this… but I’m not a pumpkin spice gal. I LOVE autumn, leaves, pumpkin patches, and all things cozy, but when it comes to pumpkin spice… I just don’t get it. I love to bake something with pumpkin once or twice a season, and I […]
The air and leaves are getting crisp, Halloween decorations are coming out, but the real seasonal change for me comes when I start making my morning lattes hot again instead of iced like I do all summer. I love fall (who doesn’t?) even though in Nashville it’s still warm and will be for a while. […]
This title is a little misleading, because I’ve already shared the details of all of our hardware from Signature Hardware in this blog, which included the bathroom fixtures. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t dedicate an entire blog post to my favorite room in the carriage house, the bathroom. Our main house was built […]
It seems like everyone and their mother has a stock tank pool these days. During the early pandemic, they took the world by storm as an affordable alternative to an in-ground pool that was more aesthetically pleasing than a big blue vinyl monstrosity above-ground. A quick search on Pinterest will show you endless ways that […]
In 2019, we bought a fixer upper in our dream neighborhood. It had active roof leaks in five rooms, needed a new sewer line the day after we closed, and had a host of other problems, not the least of which was the back yard situation. It was swampy in the summer, muddy in the […]
When it came to the beds in the carriage house, I wanted to make sure our guests had the best experience possible. The bedrooms are on the smaller side, and have sloped ceilings due to the dormers, so space was limited. Our Airbnb manager told us that they have more frequent bookings for properties with at least one king sized bed, so we decided to put a king bed in one room and a queen bed with a sitting area in the other. Let’s start today with the queen bedroom.
One of my favorite details in the carriage house is the hardware and plumbing fixtures. I knew I wanted them to be vintage-inspired and feel high quality. All of the plumbing fixtures, the exterior lights, and the door hardware was kindly gifted to us by Signature Hardware, which is my favorite place to find these vintage-inspired details.
Let’s take a tour. As you enter from the alley (don’t miss the squirrel door knocker), you’ll climb the stairs to the second floor, where you’ll enter the main living/dining/kitchen area. I knew I wanted this space to feel intentional and cozy, somewhere people will feel relaxed and at home after they’ve been out sight-seeing in Nashville. One of my favorite details here is the vintage rug. The rugs in the living room and both bedrooms are all vintage, and I love that they’re all one of a kind and help this new build to feel like it has an old soul.
