Y’all. The bathroom is DONE. I’m so happy with how it all turned out, but I might be just as happy that it’s done. I don’t recommend being pregnant, working long hours, renovating two historic houses, AND renovating a bathroom in your own home. That being said… I’m glad we did it. I’m also very glad we hired out several things (tile, plumbing, painting, and the vanity top fabrication), because I’m not sure I could have handled this all as a solely DIY project.
Just in case you missed it, here are the previous updates, starting from before photos and bringing us all the way here, to the finish line:
The last thing on the list was to collect art and accessories for the bathroom. Actually, it was sort of the first thing on the list, because I started collecting the art for this room almost a year ago. Originally I wanted this to feel super eclectic and full, with art floor to ceiling, but once the room was painted, I decided I wanted it to feel a little more serene, so we went with less art (believe it or not–this is less than planned. We can always add more!)
One of the things that was important to me here was that the rugs not be a typical bath mat. We had white bath mats in here before, but because this is our guest bathroom and our only downstairs bathroom, it also sees the most shoes, which means the white mats got dirty SO quickly. I loved the idea of a vintage rug, and luckily was able to find this matching set at a local shop, Woven Goods Co.
Most of the art here is vintage art we’ve been collecting since February. Above the toilet, however, are two Kesia Finley prints that I fell in love with. Check out her site–it’s all beautiful! The candle in the bathtub is one of my favorites, and you can get the same vessel here.
When we first moved in, I put up command hooks to hold towels, and they worked great for the first two years we lived here until we got around to re-doing the bathroom. These new hooks from Anthropologie are a whole lot prettier, and will hold up much better as well. I used a matching one for the hand towel instead of a towel ring or bar, and I love the draped look. Unfortunately the hooks I used are sold out, but here are some alternatives:
Our gallery in here is just getting started. We’d love to collect art over the next several years that we live in this house and fill the wall floor to ceiling.
All in all, I love the transformation this bathroom underwent, and even more now I love lighting candles and getting to enjoy a warm bath here.
You may be wondering what our next project will be… let me take a breather for the holidays first, but I have plenty of historic renovation updates and personal projects coming your way over the next few months until baby W arrives in April!
Thanks for being here!
