This week’s update is…. paint! Here’s where we started at the beginning of this project–I had our whole house painted Agreeable Gray when we bought it so I could have a neutral stepping off point. Before this, our house looked like an Easter basket. Too many different pastels for my taste.
Paint is such a simple update, but it makes such an impact. Click back to Week 1 to see the moodboard for this project. Based on that moody, vintage, collected feel I was going for, I knew I wanted this room to be bold. I also knew that with the glass block window on the East side of our house being the only source of natural light, this room was never going to quite work as a light and bright space. It usually works best in naturally dark spaces to lean into the natural lighting and go with a darker color. We found this to be true in our guest room, and thought it would work well in this space as well.
First, we started with some samples. I know, I know, a lot of samples… I’m the type of person who needs to see ALL my options, and once I’ve made up my mind, it’s set and there’s no changing it, so I knew we had to nail it on the first try.
We ended up going with Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams for all the walls, trim, and ceiling. We did an eggshell finish on the walls and ceiling and a semi-gloss on the trim. I hired this job out to our amazing painter, and I’ll say this–you’d think painting everything the same color would make it easier, right? Not when you’re dealing with two different sheens. It’s hard to make everything look professional when the light catches any mistakes. Our painter did a great job, and was SO much faster than I would have been, so in this case, I’m so happy we hired it out!
Can you see it all coming together now? I’m so happy with how this is turning out, and can’t wait to share next week’s update with you–it’s all about the vanity top and our beautiful plumbing trim from Signature Hardware.
